Congratulations Class of 2014!

On June 7, thirty-two young women made the transition from students to alumnae.
On Saturday, June 7, thirty-two young women made the ceremonial transition from Montrose students to Montrose alumnae. Friends, family members, faculty and trustees under the tent on Miracle Field to pay tribute to the graduates on a beautiful spring day.

The featured graduation speaker, Samia Kirmani '88, spoke about the challenge of choosing one's path - of becoming "an expert decider." Samia, a graduate of Tufts University and Boston College Law School and shareholder at the national workplace law firm of Jackson Lewis LLP, noted that a Montrose education has equipped students with the tools it takes to make choices. "At Montrose, your uniqueness was honored," Samia reminded the graduates.

Summarizing her encouragement, including the advice to "keep the faith, be bold, do your best and know that your best is all you can do," Samia reminded the graduates of the importance of gratitude and of community. “As you make your choices and chart your course, be thankful for the decisions those before you have made. And be mindful of the women who will come after you.”

In a joint speech, co-valedictorians Clare Chiodini ’14 and Maggie James ’14 urged their fellow graduates to continue to question. “Leaving Montrose, we have a head start. We know how to question, but we also know how to listen and how to answer. While we may have finished our classes that were centered around trying to answer life’s important questions, that does not mean that we should stop asking them.” Salutatorian Caroline Strauss ’14 called upon her classmates to find happiness through flourishing, citing Aristotle’s principle of Eudoaimonia - that to flourish is to become the best version of yourself in everything that you do.

Head of School Dr. Karen Bohlin then spoke personally about each graduate as she presented diplomas, according to the unique Montrose tradition. Dr. Bohlin highlighted each student’s talents, accomplishments and special contributions to the life of the school, as classmates listened, laughed and cheered.
