Dr. Manchanda visits the 20th Century History Class
Dr. Manchanda, grandmother of alumna Vani Manchanda '08, attended Mrs. Katherine Ginnetty's 12th grade 20th Century History class and spoke about the history of India. As a veteran history professor and native Indian, Dr. Manchanda was very well-versed in the topic. Students had read Passage to India over the summer to prepare for the unit on imperialism and nationalism, and Dr. Manchanda's talk made India-specific content connections for them across themes with which they were familiar. At that time, the students were also preparing for Immaculee Ilibagiza's visit and therefore had looked closely at the history of Rwanda. The common colonial history was very interesting for students.
