National Merit Success

Montrose has 3 Semifinalists, 3 Commended Students and a National Hispanic Scholar.
Head of School Dr. Karen Bohlin has announced that three Montrose seniors have been named as Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. These girls, Brigid Bane ‘16, Emma Frank ‘16 and Abigail Gillis ‘16, are among the highest performing students in the country.

About 1.5 million students from more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Brigid, Emma and Abigail were among only 16,000 students whose superlative scores led them to be designated as Semifinalists, less than one percent of those who took the 2014 PSAT/NMSQT.

As Semifinalists, Brigid, Emma and Abigail now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be awarded next spring.

In addition, three seniors have been recognized as National Merit Commended Students. Molly Cahill ’16, MaryGrace King ’16 and Saoirse Healy ’16 are among only 34,000 students nationwide receiving this honor, placing them within the top five percent of U.S. high school seniors nationwide. Saoirse has also been named a National Hispanic Scholar. She is one of only 5,000 National Hispanic Scholars from a pool of 250,000 Hispanic or Latino students nationwide who took the 2014 PSAT/NMSQT. To be considered for this honor, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5, as well as an excellent score on the PSAT/NMSQT.

Congratulations to Brigid, Emma, Abigail, Molly, MaryGrace and Saoirse on these exceptional academic accomplishments.
