Gratitude for a Founder

Montrose School dedicates the G. Edward Noonan Gallery in the A&A Center.
On December 19, Montrose School dedicated the G. Edward Noonan Gallery in the Arts & Athletics Center to co-founder G. Edward Noonan. The late Mr. Noonan's wife Phyllis was present, as were many of his friends and family.

Among the attendees were Board member Bill Noonan, Meg Noonan '93, Pauline Noonan Studebaker '96, Katie Noonan '91, and many grandchildren, including Cailey Noonan '19. Other members of the Board of Trustees, including Chairman Neil Jacob and Laurie Jacob and co-founders Bill and Leigh Bowman, were also present.

"We are gathered here to honor a great man," said Head of School Dr. Karen Bohlin, "a man whose vision made this school possible and whose vision continues to inspire us.'

Mr. Noonan was one of the founders of Montrose, who with his wife Phyllis hosted the first coffee for prospective Montrose parents in 1978. He was president for thirteen of the twenty-six years he served on the Montrose School Board of Trustees.

In early December, Montrose School inaugurated the G. Edward Noonan Award for Character and Excellence in Athletics, in honor of Mr. Noonan. The first award was presented at Montrose's first ever home basketball game, to former Athletic Directors Tina Tsiang Harding and Jen Cantrell.

"Ed Noonan was a visionary and a dedicated family man," said Dr. Bohlin. "He understood and responded valiantly to the call to greatness in his work, his family and in his vision for a girls school that would educate transformative leaders for our world today.  Ed's indomitable faith, keen intellect, unflagging hope and magnanimity remain an inspiration to the Montrose School community."
