Design Thinking with Art

8th grade students create to-scale copies of artwork using STEM principles.
Montrose middle school students have been practicing the hands-on iterative process of design thinking, as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is integrated throughout the curriculum.

Throughout the year, girls will have opportunities to research a problem, brainstorm a solution, create a prototype, and test and revise their design solutions.

Recently, the 8th grade students finished their first project, for which they had to select a work of art and devise a method for creating a larger, to-scale copy of the original work.  As a final element of this project, the girls presented their work and described their process to an audience of classmates and faculty members.

These student-created works will be on display in the new Arts & Athletics Center November 21-22, the weekend of the Middle School Musical, Annie, Jr
