First Open House a Hit

Record numbers attend Montrose School's first open house of 2014.
On a crisp fall afternoon, prospective students and their families attended Montrose School's first open house of 2014, as the admissions department booked a record number of spots for day visits.

Girls crowded the hallways as they embarked on tours of the school, led by kilt-clad students. Touring families paused to hear the Treblemakers sing. Teachers chatted with the visitors, and Athletic Director Jodi Blackburn and Fine Arts teacher Holly Sullivan showed off the features of the brand-new Arts & Athletics Center.

Molly Cahill '16 addressed the prospective students and the families, recalling her first impressions of Montrose when she was in sixth grade. "When I came to this school in seventh grade, I looked up to the older girls and saw exactly who I wanted to be," said Molly. "Now that I'm in their shoes, I can say without a doubt that thanks to Montrose and all the wonderful opportunities it has given me, I have grown as a student, as a friend and as a strong human being. I hope our one-of-a-kind school can do the same for you."

Head of School Dr. Karen Bohlin echoed Molly's description of the benefits of a Montrose education. "Montrose is a place where girls are called to greatness - not to mediocrity and not to comfort. Here at Montrose, we build girls' confidence by educating them in what matters most - in what endures and serves them long after they graduate: faith, character and intellectual vision."

For those who could not attend on Sunday, the next Open House will take place on Thursday, November 6 at 7:00 PM.
